Leadership and Supply Chain Management Practices in Fourth-Party Logistics: An Empirical Analysis

Abstract

Leaders coordinate every step of supply chain management processes. Effective leaders ensure that supply chain processes are more effective and efficient by encouraging the development of employees. In the literature, studies on leadership and supply chain management activities have been conducted in various fields. However, the existing literature has not examined the effects of leadership on supply chain management by including logistics service providers. This study aims to reveal leadership approaches that will improve the performance of fourth-party logistics service providers who undertake the role of supply chain managers. This study utilizes survey data from managers in the operations and supply chain departments of fourth-party logistics service providers. The results were obtained by modeling structural equations with SmartPLS. The research's conclusion reveals the influence of leadership characteristics on supply chain management techniques. At this point, it can be concluded that the perspective of the top management of the fourth-party logistics service providers and the leadership strategy of the businesses are quite important for the smooth functioning of the process. This study on fourth-party logistics service providers aims to fill a gap in the literature on the relationship between supply chain management practices and leadership. The different sizes and industries of the fourth-party logistics service providers in the research sample present limits for this study.
