Bio
I am a researcher of Anatolian and Aegean prehistory. My research mainly focuses on the Neolithization processes of southwest Asia, Mediterranean and Europe. I advocate theoretical archaeology in Turkey since 2015. I co-founded the Theoretical Archaeology Group - Turkey and co-organized the first meeting of TAG-Turkey to foster interest and academic work in theoretical archaeology. In October 2021, I established a transdisciplinary research group at Ege University: "The Anthropocene Research Group". The Research Group consists of researchers from different institutions and branches of science addressing the ecological crisis with a philosophical and moral framework based on the principle of social justice and equality while recognizing the need for a non-human centered ontology. The working group aims to analyze the Anthropocene Era with its social, political, cultural and historical dimensions. Since 2015, I direct Karaburun Archaeological Survey Project (KASP) in western Turkey. We investigate long-term human-environment interactions in line with a landscape archaeology perspective. In 2018-2019, I directed the excavations at Çatalhöyük. We concentrated our efforts in East Area.
