Predictors of Perceived Career Barriers among University Senior Students

Yıl 2018, Cilt: 33 Sayı: 3, 672 - 688, 31.07.2018

Öz

The purpose of this research was to analyze which variables
predicted university senior students’ perceived career barriers levels. The study
group for this research consisted of 275 university senior students studying at
the different programs of the Faculty of Education in the southwest of Turkey. Perceived
Career Barriers Scale, Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale, Trait Anxiety
Inventory and Personal Information Form were used to collect data. Multiple linear
regression and independent group t-test statistical methods were used to analyze
the data. Results indicated that the students’ levels of perceived career barriers
were predicted by the variables of peer effect on career choices, career decision-making
self-efficacy, and trait anxiety. However, parents and teachers’ effect on career
choices and GPA did not predict the students’ levels of perceived career barriers.
Furthermore, there was not a statistically significant difference in the students’
perceived career barrier levels based on gender. These results were discussed in
the light of relevant literature and recommendations were proposed.
