Abstract
Ülkelerin iç dinamiklerine bağlı olan ekonomik kalkınma süreçlerinde dış ticaretin etkisi, iktisat teorilerinde en çok tartışılan konular arasında yer almaktadır. Bu tartışmalara bağlı olarak, dış ticaretin ekonomik kalkınmaya etkisi konusunda birçok farklı görüş ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu görüşler, dış ticaretin ekonomik kalkınmanın motoru olduğu tezi, dış ticaretin ekonomik kalkınmanın hizmetkarı olabileceği tezi ve dış ticaretin az gelişmiş ülkelerin kalkınmasında olumsuz etkilere sahip olduğunu belirten tezlerdir. Çalışmada, Türkiye’nin 1980-2010 dönemini kapsayan dış ticaret ve ekonomik kalkınma göstergeleri arasındaki ilişki, eş-bütünleşme ve nedensellik analizleriyle test edilmiş ve belirtilen dönem için, Türkiye’nin yaptığı dış ticaretin ülkenin ekonomik kalkınmasında önemli bir etken olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Abstract
One of the most discussed issues of economic theories is that the effect of foreign trade which is connected to the internal dynamics of nations in the processes of economic development. Depending on these discussions, many different views have emerged on the impact of foreign trade on economic development. These views are that foreign trade is the engine of economic development, which foreign trade may be the servant of economic development, and that foreign trade have a negative effect on economic development of underdeveloped countries. In this study, the relationship between foreign trade and economic development indicators, covering 1980-2010 period of Turkey, is tested with co-integration and causality analysis and it has been concluded that Turkey's foreign trade during aforementioned period is an important factor in the nation's economic development.
